About me
I'm Ben - event technician from Hamburg - and I spend most of my working life where the show happens. You'll find me behind the FOH desk at the Große Freiheit 36, mixing lights at Docks or Circle Club. Same hardcore techno energy at the Gängeviertel, the same rig moved over to Kampnagel the week after - and then wired, polished and red-carpet-ready at a five-star hotel or a premiere the weekend after that. If it makes sound, light or both, I've probably run it here.
Equally at home off the polished floor: I do a lot of riding along with the Schlagermove and the harbor crowd at the Hafengeburtstag, plus Fairs & Conferences, cinema jobs and corporate launches that land somewhere in between. Every gig adds a wrinkle the last one didn't have, which is exactly why I still like this job after so many shows.
Lately I'm also building with Prüf Hamburg: custom speaker wagons and mobile rigs, designed from scratch to survive cobblestones, rain and thousands of dancing people.
And just as often I leave the city limits behind: Scheunenfeten and Stoppelfeten for local Landjugend clubs, "Trecker Trecks" out in the countryside of Northern Germany. A thrown-up rig in a barn or a PA behind a tractor dealership doesn't faze me - if the doors open and people show up, I'll make it a show.
I'm equally comfortable on sound, light, laser or sfx - the broad spectrum is the point. And I'm a licensed Laser Safety Officer according to OStrV, TROS and DGUV, so your aerial effects stay spectacular for the audience and boring for the insurance company. And, I'm also experienced in working with Pyrotechnics, ranging from co2 effects via sparks to flame effects.

Most productions don't fail on the headline tech - they fail on the invisible bits underneath. That's where I put most of my attention: rig planning that respects power and sight lines, signal flow that survives a dropped connector, and a timecode show locked tight enough that the pyro fires exactly when the drop hits, not two bars later.
When it comes to actually running the show I split my time between two very different instincts. Concert FOH and club nights demand reacting to the room: reading the crowd, catching a vocalist a half-step before they blow the system, finding an extra ten percent of low end you didn't know the PA had. Festivals and corporate productions demand the opposite: advance preparation so complete that show day feels like pressing play on something you already built in your head. I'm fluent in both.
Laser work is its own discipline. Programming aerials in Pangolin BEYOND is half creative, half regulatory chess - keeping the beams beautiful while staying inside OStrV-compliant audience-scanning limits, filling out the TROS paperwork and walking the DGUV line so promoters and insurers sleep well. It's the part of the job nobody claps for, and the part I take most seriously.
Being a software developer isn't a distraction from all this - it's why I gravitate toward networked setups, scripted workflows and careful versioned showfiles instead of a folder called "final_v3_REALLYFINAL". The crossing point between AV and IT is where most modern productions quietly live, and where I feel most at home.

Highlight Projects
Selected productions where I was responsible for lighting, lasers and show-critical infrastructure - from first sketch to final cue.
2025 · Hamburg Stadtpark · Open Air
Built a large stage around the DJ so people could dance on it, backed by a truss carrée rigged with floods, strobes and LED bars for subtle but chic house and EDM looks. CO2 and flame effects sealed the drops.
2024–2026 · Steinhorst · Festival in Dorf-Style
Festival feeling with village soul. Rigged Layher towers, deployed CO2, flame jets and spark effects, installed moving lights and rigged L-Acoustics Kara, K3, KS21 and KS28. Set up a Pioneer CDJ booth, built LED walls and measured the laser safety zones for crowd scanning.
2024–2026 · Klinkrade · Recurring Production
Planned the stage designs and technical setup here across several years. A smaller space demands precision - I build lasers, lights and L-Acoustics sound with certified laser safety setups for crowd scanning.
